Croatia has been named in the top three destinations globally in the prestigious Best Country award 2020, which was awarded by the famous British newspapers The Times & The Sunday Times and The Sun.
The finalists in the awards were Canada, Croatia, Iceland, USA, Thailand, Australia, Sri Lanka, Italy, Japan, Portugal, France, Turkey, Barbados, New Zealand, Greece, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Italy was named first, New Zealand second and Croatia third.
Given the current epidemiological situation, the award ceremony was held virtually and attended by the Croatian National Tourist Board Representation Director in the United Kingdom Darija Reić.
“Croatia, with its fantastic tourist offer and tireless promotion, unquestionably deserves the title of one of the best countries and we are extremely pleased that the British public has recognised our quality. We have known for a long time that Croatia is a popular topic of every conversation about travel, and a visit to Croatian destinations is what the British like to brag about in society, to the extent that even going into isolation did not sway some to travel and enjoy our Mediterranean wealth. This success has strengthened Croatia’s position in the UK as a destination of beautiful scenery and diverse, high-quality tourist offer, and we will continue to maintain our reputation in the market through further promotional activities”, said Reić, adding that Croatia was presented as a ”full of whim vigour and sunshine”.

Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Staničić, added:
“It is with great pleasure that we received the news that Croatia has been declared one of the best countries in the world in 2020. According to Eurostat data, this is an additional confirmation of the safe and stable position that our country enjoys on the international market after taking the leading position in the Mediterranean this season. The United Kingdom is one of the most important markets for Croatian tourism, and I believe that with the stabilisation of the situation, our faithful British guests will return to Croatia in greater numbers.”
The Times & The Sunday Times is among the most influential newspapers in the UK, reaching a record 16 million readers per month this year via print and online editions.
